Pay a visit to Pai, Chiang Dao, the enchanting Doi Mae Salong, the Doi Tung Royal Villa, and the renowned Golden Triangle, which is located at the intersection of the borders of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar. After entering Myanmar (also known as Burma), take a boat to Laos for a quick stop on your trip. Take a trip to Chiang Rai and visit the White Temple at Wat Rong Khun. Travel along the border between Laos and Thailand while taking in the breathtaking panoramas along the way. Phayao is a stunning place to visit because of its mountainous scenery. As we travel through various natural, historical, traditional, and cultural attractions, you will have plenty of opportunities for sightseeing and will have an experience that you will never forget.

Itinerary

Chiang Mai – Doi Inthanon – Mae Chaem – Mae Hong Son – Pai – Chiang Dao – Doi Mae Salong – Golden Triangle – Phayao – Chiang Mai

(Distance:  about 1,350 km / 840 miles)

Day 1. Around Chiang Mai (Samoeng Loop) – Sightseeing and test motorcycles (130 km)

Breakfast at the hotel. Early morning meet and greet at your accommodation in Chiang Mai. We will provide the tour briefing, and then provide you with your riding gear and bike. We will inform you briefly of local history, geography and acknowledge any personal requirements. Lastly, we have a general Q&A opportunity for any concerns you might have related to the tour.
We take the highway, heading north to ride around Chiang Mai along winding and narrow twisty curvy roads with high mountain scenery (Samoeng Loop).
Visit the famous botanical garden The Royal Park Rajapruek, which was built to commemorate the 60th anniversary of His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s Accession to the throne as well as His Majesty’s 80th birthday. This large floral and botanical park has an incalculable number of plants and flowers and a nice orchids garden. You will also find a large driveway leading to the very refined Ho Kham Luang Royal Pavilion.
Laters will ride with the motorcycles up to Doi Suthep Mountain to overlook Chiang Mai and visit Wat Doi Suthep, Chiang Mai’s most revered temple on the mountaintop.
According to an old legend, Monk Sumana presented the king with a bone relic of the Lord Buddha. He then tied it to the back of a royal elephant that stomped through the jungle for days. The elephant finally stopped at the actual place of the temple where he died. Both the king and monk Sumana agreed that this would be the place where the Doi Suthep temple would be built. Lunch is served at a local restaurant.
After lunch, we will ride back to Chiang Mai and will discover the most important attractions and temples in the old city of Chiang Mai.
In the evening you will have time to discover more of Chiang Mai, like the famous night market or just relax with a traditional Thai massage. Chiang Mai has a lot to offer: shopping, culture, and a vibrant pub and bar scene.
Dinner at Chiang Mai’s best restaurant: The Riverside. We will take a boat to have dinner on the Mae Ping River.

Day 2. Chiang Mai – Mae Chaem (144 km)

First on the highway heading south of Chiang Mai to Doi Inthanon National Park, the highest peak in Thailand; 2,565 meters above sea level. Ride along the excellent winding mountain road through pine forest scenery. Visit Thailand’s finest waterfall, nature trails, Royal pagodas, and botanical gardens. Lunch at the National Park headquarters restaurant. Descending to Mae Chaem where you later enjoy your peaceful accommodation with swimming pool.

Day 3. Mae Chaem – Mae Hong Son (169 km)

After breakfast, leave Mae Chaem to Mae Hong Son on narrow twisty curvy roads. In Khun Yuam we take a break and visit a World War II museum. Visit Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu, the first temple of Mae Hong Son on the hilltop. With its remote setting and surrounding mountains, Mae Hong Son fits many travelers’ preconceived notions of how a northern Thai city should be. A palpable Burmese influence and a border-town feel don’t clash with this image and, best of all, there’s hardly a túk-túk or tout to be seen. This doesn’t mean Mae Hong Son is uncharted territory – tour groups have been coming here for years – but the city’s potential as a base for activities. Overnight at a very charming accommodation with a swimming pool close to the center city lake and near the famous temple.

Day 4. Mae Hong Son – Ban Rak Thai – Pai (177 km)

After breakfast takes a long tail boat and Visit the long-neck Karen tribe village near the border of Thailand and Myanmar.
After we will ride to the most remote area and most beautiful spot of Northern Thailand: Ban Rak Thai.
Tucked into the outer reaches of Northern Thailand is a Chinese tea village, its mud huts lining a reservoir next to the Burmese border. Only 44km from Mae Hong Son but a world away in feel, Ban Rak Thai (also known as Mae Aw)’s peeling mud walls and tiny tea shops seem out of place amid the pine forests of Doi Pan. Home to around 1,000 people of mostly Chinese descent, the sleepy village is known for its tea, with vans of curious Thai tourists making the trip for a day. It is strange to get a small taste of China on the Thai-Burma border, but well worth the effort to get here. And not just for the tea (which was delicious) but also the delicious food. Lunch here at a local restaurant.
Later ride again on amazing twisty mountain roads and visit the Lod cave, which means, “cave with a stream running through”, on a bamboo raft. Then back on curvy roads to Pai. Pai. It’s one of the most popular destinations in Northern Thailand and despite all its Westernized ills, remains one of the must-see areas of the country. We stay in charming accommodation with a swimming pool near to the famous walking street.

Day 5. Rest day in Pai

A day of leisure. Today we’re doing nothing at all. Relaxing in the pool or shopping in the town. Pai offers a relaxed atmosphere with a broad tourist and pretty serious backpacker scene. The town’s permanent residents are a seemingly harmonious mix of Western hippies, Thai rastas, and Muslims (there is a big mosque in the center of town) which gives the place a unique vibe that may be appealing to some, even if it isn’t traditional.
Laundry service possible.

Day 6. Pai – Chiang Dao (135 km)

Before breakfast, in the very early morning, you have a chance to offer food to the monks along the streets of Pai`s local market. After breakfast, visit the Pai World War II Memorial Bridge. Back on winding mountainous roads. Later we reach Chiang Dao and visit the Chiang Dao cave. Stay overnight at this stunning place to relax in your charming accommodation with a swimming pool.

Day 7. Chiang Dao – Doi Mae Salong (160 km)

After breakfast, we will back on winding mountainous roads until we reach Tha Ton, where you will visit the Wat Tha Ton on top of the mountain and enjoy the amazing sunset there. Then ride along fantastic mountain roads to Doi Mae Salong.
Mae Salong is located in the northwestern region of Chiang Rai province, in an area called Mae Fah Luang, which is right along the border of Myanmar. At the end of the Chinese Civil War, a group of Chinese, who wouldn’t succumb to defeat, lived nomadic lives in Myanmar. Eventually, they found their way to the hilltops of Mae Salong, where they set up a village. The Thai government allowed them to stay in Thailand, as long as they fought for Thailand. Today, the village still exists, and it’s still very Yunnanese Chinese.
Later you relax in your charming accommodation with a breathtaking panorama view.

Day 8. Doi Mae Salong – Golden Triangle (short visit to Myanmar and Laos) (103 km)

After breakfast, we leave Doi Mae Salong, where Chinese mountain tea farmers live. Of course, you will test Thailand´s best tea there. Then back on curvy roads to Doi Tung Royal Villa. Visit the Winter Palace and the botanical garden. Lunch is served at the Royal’s Project restaurant. Continue along winding roads to Mae Sai, the northernmost point of Thailand. Visit Wat Tham Pla where you can feed some food to wild monkeys. Mae Sai on the Burma border. Cross into Burma (let the motorcycle at the border) and explore Tachilek in Burma and its attractions. (Visa on arrival).
Later reach the Golden Triangle to take a long-tail boat trip on the Mekong River and a short visit to a small village in Laos (no visa necessary). Visit the Opium museum before relaxing at your peaceful accommodation.

Day 9. Golden Triangle – Phayao (168 km)

After breakfast, ride along a scenic farming area road to Chiang Rai City. After that, visit the White Temple (Wat Rong Khun) one of the top 10 wonder temples in the world. Continue on a long highway ride until we reach Phayao, Discover Kwan Phayao Lake, which is one of the biggest lakes in Thailand. It covers an area of 12,831 rai (21 km²) at an elevation of 380 m. The lake has a mean depth of 2 m. Forty-eight species of fish are recorded for the lake, most dominant are the artificially introduced Nile Tilapia and the Climbing Perch. The lake was created in 1939 to improve irrigation in the area. It was added to the list of 61 most important wetlands on the 1st of August 2000. There are currently plans to restore the ancient temple Wat Tilok Aram dating back to the end of the 15th century, which was submerged during the construction of the lake. The town of Phayao is at the southeast corner of the lake. Then we arrive and relax at the charming accommodation.

Day 10. Phayao – Chiang Mai (151 km)

Riding back home on the stunning road R120. Continue riding on windy mountain roads to Tharntong waterfall and Mae Kachan hot spring. Visit a local market, stopping for refreshment, before heading back to Chiang Mai.
